| So I know this particular Transformer has been out for a couple of months. I know that a lot of you already have him and either love or hate him. So what do I think of Hasbro's latest incarnation of a G1 classic character? Read on to find out…
At first glance in Jeep mode - and kudos to Hasbro for securing these actual automobile licenses by the way - Hound looks and feels great. This Jeep is sturdy and secure, with no real loose parts to speak of in this mode. What really stands out, as in all the Alternators up to this point, is the fact that Hound has an opening hood and detailed looking engine inside, and the fact he has working suspension. You read right - working independent 4 wheel suspension. He also has highly detailed interior and reclining seats, opening back hatch, and rubber tires. One last note, the spare tire is where Hound stores his pea shooter (the gun is wayyyy too small to me) What more can you ask for in Jeep mode?
Now you may be wondering what I think of the Robot mode for Hound. Well, aside from the severe problem of polls sticking out of his back (at least they aren't out of his a$$), he looks ok to me. In the instructions they do show a point where the legs are extended a little further and made longer right at the knee joints I found that if I leave them folded a little more, the legs appear to still be straight, they bend in normal fashion, and the proportion of Hound's legs to his torso is MUCH better. Unfortunately, no matter what you do with the poles on his back or his legs, it is difficult to make this seemingly highly poseable Transformer into many cool poses. At least he looks great when posed just right and next to Prime. All I need now is an Alternator version of Rumble to re-create the underwater scene from the first 3 parter of Transformers G1 Cartoon :)
Bottom Line
If you are any kind of Transformers fan, limitations aside from the robot, this Alternator is definitely worth picking up. If you are a fan of highly detailed model cars, and want something a little different in your 1:24 scale collection, this is the Jeep for you. Otherwise, for the average action figure collector or occasional Transformer buyer (not an avid crazy fan like me), you can skip this Alternator and move on to the next one, Dead End ;)
