| The latest couple of waves of the Spider-Man toy line have come and gone. The latest wave included a McFarlane styled Spider-man - and this beauty of a figure, Sandman. A more obscure but still prominent figure from Spidey's rogues gallery, the Sandman doesn't exactly help you sleep - more like give you nightmares. Want to keep on reading?
The sculpting alone on this figure is what I noticed first. Each little divot in his shirt, pants, hands, arms, everywhere, makes him feel almost like hardened sand. He feels almost like hard plastic - no pun intended - sandpaper. This little detail really helps to sell the look of this guy. What also aids in the realism factor is the poseability, with ratcheted joints and sockets, as well as no overly tight and stiff points of articulation. With a really nice and tight paint job as well, this figure looks amazing!
The real beauty of the figure, however, is the accessories. Rather than some silly "SUPER ROCKET FIRING SANDBLASTING ACTION!" feature, Sandman has simply 2 hands that come off, and four different 'sand' attachments. Ranging from a killer axe, to an articulated dis0figured hand, to a mallet looking claw, and even a spiked ball, he has all he needs to take on Spider-Man and the rest of the Marvel Universe. Each one can easily be snapped on and off, and still retain the swivel in the wrist. Very cool indeed….
Bottom Line
Bottom Line - Being a little harder to find when he first came out, and the promise of more re-releases of the rogues for Spidey later this year, I can easily say this figure is well worth the hunt. At about $7 to $8 in most stores, Sandman would be a great addition to any Marvel figure collection. If you have trouble finding him, just be patient, he should be more available in stores soon. Just one piece of advice, don't let him near a beach - he might disappear on you ;)
