What an Ultimate line, Marvel Legends. Some figures are good, some are great, and some are just Ultimate. Captain America's second figure in this line, the 'Ultimate' version that is, comes in Series 8 with quite a punch. How much of a punch can Cap give? Read on to find out….

First off let's talk about everyone's favorite subject with regards to Legends figures, their articulation. The Cap here sports an insane amount of articulation. From the usual double jointed knees and elbows, to a semi-new styled ball-and-socket looking hip joint, to the individually articulated fingers. That's right - each finger (not thumb though) is articulated with one joint at the base of the hand, with one hand sculpted to look better with its fingers extended, the other better as a fist. While earlier attempts by Toy Biz to do this in the 6 inch scale didn't work so well (ie earlier Spidey figures), the thicker fingers and joints here work, and make this figure very articulated and poseable. And when you're Captain America, you need all the poseability you can get!

Now let's move on to the sculpting. While the first Captain in Series I was good, standing him next to the Ultimate version makes him seem really out of place on my shelf now. From the detailed pouches, that chiseled chin, the boot detail, and even the uniform texture itself, this new Cap really just looks nice, no matter what. Of course, there was a Marvel Select version of this figure a year or so ago, but with hardly any articulation, his younger brother seen here puts that version to shame.

There is also a nicely detailed base, which looks good and holds Cap's feet reasonably on target, so he doesn't tip over. With this base comes a stand to that can sit in the base and connects to a hole in the back of Cap, allowing him to appear as if he is jumping in the air. Well, mine promptly snapped when setting up a display, so my Cap doesn't go airborne much anymore…unless he dives off the shelf (which he hasn't done yet…)

Bottom Line

The Bottom Line is this - any fan of the Marvel Legends line shouldn't hesitate to pick up Ultimate Captain America. With superb detailing and poseability, he is a great addition to your collection. Be warned, there is a chase version out of this same styled body, but with the little wings on modern day Captain America's mask. This one may be harder to find, but with only that and a slightly different paint scheme, only slight, this version should be all you need. Also not being one per case should help too ;) Good luck in finding one, and if you see him, and you can afford it, I highly recommend the Ultimate Captain America :)
