The first set of O-Ring, new sculpt Joes have started to appear on store shelves. With the new series of figures come new versions of old favorites, and conglomerates of others. In this review I look at the new Agent Scarlett and Zartan set - read on for their review....

Sculpting : Both Scarlett and Zartan here are completely new sculpts. Both hold fairly true to their original counterparts, Scarlett even more so. While maintaining some trademarks in her uniform - such as the stars on her left wrist - the added dimension of straps ad better female physique add to the figure. Zartan is a little too buff, but over the years we can assume he has been body building ;) Overall the sculpts are great on both figures. Also of note is both retain the new O-Ring design, a big plus!!

Articulation : With the new O-Ring design in the figures, the articulation is right on par with the original GI Joes. Added to Scarlett is a single leg thigh swivel, why one I will never understand. Zartan has the added articulation of swiveling wrists on both hands. Some odd choices on a few figures to change articulation styles, but overall really adds to the figures. A perfect 10 as usual here.

Articulation - 10

Accessories : Why Hasbro refuses to give us figure stands when they did with the entire retro A Real American Hero line is beyond me. And the more and more I see the Sound Attack chips on weapons it makes me more and more upset. The biggest thing out of all the Sound Chips I have seen lately is on Scarlett's Crossbow, which I promptly cut off (carefully with an X-acto knife. Parents, ask for your parents help with this) and it looks loads better! The other guns and buzzsaw that have the chips do not need these, and it upsets me to see them there. At least a couple guns did not have these awful chips on them. Also, Zartan's hood can come off revealing he is - gasp - bald!! Maybe he tried to get the part of Picard in Star Trek? Still, with the Sound Attack chips this score suffers.

Painting and Design: As mentioned above, the sculpt and articulation are great on these figures. Add to that the paint scheme on Scarlett that is almost exactly like her old Comic Book and Cartoon colors, and Zartan's near perfect look, and this is a great bunch. Zartan is still not perfect, but a little paint could fix that (as shown by a Custom Zartan figure done by my pal LeonardoTDragon). A great set, and the best of the current wave of figures in my opinion based on looks.

Painting and Design - 9.75

Overall

The Scarlett figure is flawless, even if her Crossbow is not. Zartan, is near perfect, just needs some paint to be comic book perfect. The Sound Attack chips need to go in favor of figure stands. Overall though, this is the best set - IMHO - of the new GI Joe figure sets thus far. Easily worth up to $10 in any retail store.

Overall Rating : 8.2
