In
Target, after finding a cool Storm
Shadow w/ Cycle on the pegs, I also spot this set and
a Dart w/ Gun Station
as well. Not knowing at first if anyone else knew these were
out; I snagged this figure and checked it out. Is this repaint
of figure and his air glider worth your bucks? Read on…
This repaint of the original Barrel Roll figure is nice looking, desert motif paint application that actually looks better, in my opinion, than the original. With a maroon colored shirt and dark tan pants ad vest, with black boots and gloves, he just looks great. Add to that his extra poseability with rotating wrists and you have one fine figure. He comes with his sniper rifle, and the same helmet that Backblast comes with from the Neutralizer, which doesn't look too bad on him. Now let's take a look at his newly painted glider...
The Air Assault glider is one of my favorite small vehicles
in the past few years with the new Joe toys that have come
out. So much so that I have three Barrel Roll figures from
the Spy Troops release just to have more of the glider, and
even got the Kmart exclusive Operation: Avalanche set to get
2 more. While all those were silver al the way around, this
one is silver underneath, but has a desert paint scheme on
top. As sharp as this glider looked silver, for some reason,
I really like this desert paint scheme on top. It makes the
glider stand out more on display, and is believable as camouflage
for operations in the desert for Barrel Roll here. The only
thing the glider doesn't have are the Cobra insignia to add
to it to make it a Cobra glider, or the Cobra missiles, but
that is ok. I can't be too upset when I get to add a unique
version of this glider to my collection.
Bottom Line
Bottom Line - Bottom Line - If you were a fan of this glider or of the Barrel Roll figure, I recommend you pick this set u. If not, or feel you have the version of these you want already from Spy Troops, then it can be skipped. Still, for my money and collection, I can never have too many (I have 2 at the moment ;) ). This is available at Target stores now, with a wider release slated for later this year or next as I understand it.
