| The GI Joe line has not had many accurate, real looking, based-on-an-actual-military-design-vehicle for a long time - till now. While other companies have put out a 3 ¾" figure scaled Humvee over the past couple of years, Hasbro had yet to do one for its military figure line of GI Joe. How does the Jungle Strike hold up to scrutiny? Read on to find out…
OK, lets just say it - this is the coolest real-life military vehicle to come out for GI Joe in a longggg time. Sure, the Patriot Tank was cool - but too big and bulky. The Sky Sweeper Jets are nice but too small and have that semi-cheesy pod underneath. This Jungle Strike Humvee, however, really nails its namesake perfectly.
Starting from the front to the back, the detailing is amazing. Each rivet, each molding, each hinge, feels solid and real. The hood opens to reveal a very detailed engine inside. All four doors open for access for your Joes. The back trunk opens as well, with simulated pneumatic pipes to hold it up, as well as a drop down tail door. In the trunk area is two snap in areas for two machine guns that can be put in the top turret. And if those aren't plugged into the top turret, a missile firing launcher is there - and it does shoot pretty far :) Finally, if you just turn the Humvee over, there is a detailed undercarriage too - a detail that is greatly appreciated by Joe fans, even if you don't always see it.
All this attention to detail and no stupid 'Sound Attack' or real gimmicky features are on this Humvee, just a simple missile firing action and a cool figure. Wait, you didn't know? That's right - Rollbar comes as the driver for the Joe Humvee. A sort of self assured 'swaggering' driver with a talent for fixing anything with wheels, he feels like a perfect addition to the team. While his uniform is kind of bland and he has no personal weapons to speak of, he has a whole Humvee to himself! I just envision him and Clutch having some unauthorized races around the motor pool sometime ;)
Bottom Line
Bottom Line - Any GI Joe fan would be a fool not to pick up at least one of these. I myself now have two and love it. When compared to the bbi Humvee, this Joe Vehicle just stands above it all. When compared to the PTE Humvees, it still stands above, but can at least be mixed with the PTE Humvee much easier than any others. At about $15 most places, this is an easy addition without breaking a budgeted collector. I highly recommend this to any Joe collector, to any parent who have kids that like GI Joe or military toys, and even to 1/18 scale vehicle collectors - the GI Joe Jungle Strike Humvee is that impressive.
