Sculpting
: Well, as you can see in the pics, there is no O-ring.
This does not hurt their review at all really. Both of these
figures are finely sculpted. Frostbite has his helmet and
goggles sculpted in, and they do look great. My only gripe
is those could have been accessories, but then again, more
parts to lose. Each pad on him looks like it is needed and
functional, so those add some realism to his outfit for me.
He is also scuplted without his famous beard, which is fine
by me. Some people complain about this, I say - Hey, maybe
he wants to feel smooth for a lady, you know? ;) The
Neo-Viper is great Viper figure, one I can see kids (or myself,
since I now have two ;) ) wanting tons of them. They are in
the standard Cobra blue military dress, and a great sculpt
on his hands. One is turned in such a way he can always hold
his rifle properly. It would be perfect if the hand was a
rotating one wrist though.

Articulation : One could say that without the O-ring, there is slightly less
poseability in the new Joe figures. That is true, but they
do retain all the other poseability that they are known for.
Ball-and-Socket shoulders, swivel arm battle-grip (I love
saying that), knee joints, and ball-and-socket necks. The
necks are different in that that they can bend down and up
a little further, and can turn around 360 degrees, allowing
for some great head poses that the first Joes in 1982 did
not have, and improved slowly through the 80s and 90s. Replacing
the O-ring is a standard straight leg up and down for the
upper leg, and right to left torso joint above the hips. Frostbite
could have used the O-ring to make for some better skiing
poses, but he does fine without it too. The Neo-Viper, to
me, just needs to stand and be a guard or a sentry most of
the time, not be in a vehicle so much. The lack of an O-ring
won't really hurt his chances of being bought. The only
thing he could really use is a swivel on his wrist that is
preposed to hold the end of his gun...that would make him
a perfect figure.

Accessories : Each one of these figures come with accessories that really
work for them. Frostbite comes with the original Snow Job's
backpack, skis, and ski poles. That makes sense for him. He
also comes with a high powered rifle, perfect for getting
Cobra's in the snow. The Neo-Viper comes with a standard gun
(same mold as a Laser Viper) and a sniper rifle (same as the
mold for the new Low Light's gun). The Sniper rifle makes
ok sense, but the other rifle works as a sentry type gun.
The only excess of accessories are the six little bombs in
and throughout their package. With no place to go, they can
get lost or eaten easily by a pet or child. I suggest leaving
those in unless you have a safe place to put them.

Painting and Design: Not much to tell here since both of these figures are primarily
one color or another. Frostbite is almost all white with black
for his pads and straps, some brown for his fur collar, and
silver on some small cans on his front. The Neo-Viper is that
great royal Cobra blue, a yellow insignia on his chest, and
grey for his boots and gloves. Black is used sparingly for
his straps and mask on his helmet. Each app is perfect, as
is this score.

Overall
I predict this will be a popular set for kids and collectors
alike. Not so much for both figures, but for the one - Neo-Viper.
Frostbite is nice, but who needs five or six of him. I don't
mind shelling out the $8 bucks or so for him a couple extra
times to get an extra Viper or two, but parents might not.
Overall though, as a figure pack of two great figures, individually,
they are well worth it. Lets just hope Hasbro does two packs
of just Vipers someday soon so we can all build armies of
Cobra troops. If you see this pack in a store, I highly recommend
it, with a Viper in the pack, they will sell very well.
